Banjul - Barra is the busiest crossing point with operations for almost 24/7. There are currently 3 active ferries at this point - Kunta Kinteh, Kanilai and Johe. some of the items normally transported here include:

TransGambia links Farafenni crossing point to Soma. this use to be the second busiest crossing point in the Gambia until 2019 when the Senegambia bridge was constructed.

The Gambia Ferry Services Company Ltd (GFSC) is incorporated under the Companies Act 2013 as a subsidiary of the Gambia Ports Authority, a public company created under the Ports Act 1972. The mission of the company is to connect people and places across and along the river and other tributaries within the territorial waters of the Gambia. The company currently operates in eight crossing points at Banjul, Kaur, Barajally, Janjanbureh, Bansang, Basse and Fatoto. In addition to providing ferry services, from January 2019, the GFSC was also involved in the operation of the Senegambia bridge when it was called upon in January 2019 to install a temporal toll collection facilities at both ends of the bridge which include ticketing point of sales, control and security mechanism and a management system for banking of the proceeds.
